Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult & Samantha van Leer, Book Review

General Information
Genre: YA
Publisher: Simon Pulse Simon Schuster

Book Summary (per Goodreads)
Delilah is a bit of a loner who prefers spending her time in the school library with her head in a book—one book in particular. Between the Lines may be a fairy tale, but it feels real. Prince Oliver is brave, adventurous, and loving. He really speaks to Delilah.
And then one day Oliver actually speaks to her. Turns out, Oliver is more than a one-dimensional storybook prince. He’s a restless teen who feels trapped by his literary existence and hates that his entire life is predetermined. He’s sure there’s more for him out there in the real world, and Delilah might just be his key to freedom.
A romantic and charming story, this companion novel to Off the Page will make every reader believe in the fantastical power of fairy tales.

My Thoughts
This was my first Jodi Picoult book and I enjoyed it!  It was a sweet, cute and fun read, however parts (just parts..not the whole story) were somewhat predictable.  I loved the light-hearted aspects of a teen love story and the way the two authors created two fully developed and believable worlds. My initial concern was that this book would be like the beginning of the movie Enchanted. While some of the story has that theme where you can tell a character will be leaving a book that is a prince, that was the extent of the similarity for me.

The characters in this story are extremely relateable.  One could see themselves in different aspects and events in this book.  I also love that I do not have a favorite character after reading this book.  I enjoyed all of the characters, even the "mean girls" of the high school because the conversations, thoughts and emotions shared by the authors is just so on point.

I would recommend this book to those that like a book that has a great developed storyline, characters that you can relate to and is a fun and quick read.  I can't wait to begin the next book Off the Page to see what happens to Delilah, Oliver, their friends and more!
